Welcome to Dim Sum Asylum: a San Francisco where it’s a ho-hum kind of case when a cop has to chase down an enchanted two-foot-tall shrine god statue with an impressive Fu Manchu mustache that’s running around Chinatown, trolling sex magic and chaos in its wake.

Senior Inspector Roku MacCormick of the Chinatown Arcane Crimes Division faces a pile of challenges far beyond his human-faerie heritage, snarling dragons guarding C-Town’s multiple gates, and exploding noodle factories. After a case goes sideways, Roku is saddled with Trent Leonard, a new partner he can’t trust, to add to the crime syndicate family he doesn’t want and a spell-casting serial killer he desperately needs to find.

While Roku would rather stay home with Bob the Cat and whiskey himself to sleep, he puts on his badge and gun every day, determined to serve and protect the city he loves. When Chinatown’s dark mystical underworld makes his life hell and the case turns deadly, Trent guards Roku’s back and, if Trent can be believed, his heart… even if from what Roku can see, Trent is as dangerous as the monsters and criminals they’re sworn to bring down.

four-stars

In my entire history of reading its never taken me so long to read a Rhys Ford book. Its partially my fault, and partially the books fault. I was busy, and summer read has taken a backseat to much needed enjoyment time with the ball & chain. It took me 9 days to completely finish the book. Some days I didn’t get a chance to pick it up. While that seems bad, it was good for me because when I did get a chance to get back to it I had no problem with diving in. It was easy enough to follow far as plot wise goes. I gotta say this one was kinda insta-love something I didn’t expect at all. I mean it was 2 maybe 3 days into Roku & Trent to become Rent!! <—- Ha, Ha, Ha. See what I did there?

The world building was astounding. Such vivid descriptions, and thorough world embodiment.I do think some times it escapes Ford with how much she does focus on the world building. In turn I would have liked just a teeny tiny bit cut off to focus on the plot. I feel like this has the potential to be a series, but as of now its a novel. Don’t know how I feel about that.

I’ve said it once, and will say it again. I’m not really a Fae girl, but for some reason most of Rhys pnr/uf has focused on the fae. I always feel like its too much involving the fae. I constantly get lost on the good vs. bad fae, but nevertheless this book was easy enough to follow through. It doesn’t help that Roku was a really good character. He is just dealt a bad hand with certain situations. Trent, grew to my liking. I liked how he wanted foundation and after everything he’s been through that he feels like he’s found some commonality in Roku. It could definitely work, seeing as they both of them have similar background and need someone in their life.

As usual I liked the writing. It always flows beautifully. I thought it was a well developed story and was really happy with the outcome. I enjoyed the short in the anthology story, and glad that Ford decided to develop this into a well thought novel. A recommend from me as usual!

SSA Rain Christiansen used to be the agency’s golden boy. It just takes one moment of weakness, one slight, tiny, itty-bitty paranormal sighting, and all of a sudden he’s the agency’s embarrassment. His boss gives him one last chance to redeem himself—go down to Brickell Bay, play nice with the local police, and leave the ghost sightings behind. Rain is determined to do exactly that, even if it kills him.

Cold-case detective Daniel McKenna’s latest investigation is going nowhere fast. Five years earlier, high school student Amy Greene went missing after leaving her part-time job and was never seen again. Daniel is glad to finally have the FBI help that his department requested, even if it does come in the form of his ex.

It doesn’t help that Rain is pretty sure he’s falling in love with Danny all over again—if he ever stopped. Add to that the frustration of seeing ghosts at every turn while he works a case that’s stalled in its tracks, and Rain is starting to wonder if second chances and happy endings are just for fairy tales.

four-half-stars

Dude. I’m so blown away by this story! It was really good from beginning to end. Why not 5 stars? Because its not a series. Why the f*** not? I feel like Rain & Danny’s story isn’t done. Harmon, you have to give us more.

I was really hesitant reading this book, seeing all the high rating and reviews. I put it off to this weekend when I can have time to read sink my teeth into it. I get the high rating, reviews and best of list. I couldn’t tell you the last great book I’ve read this year. This book is definitely going on my Best of 2017 list!

Not only did it feature amazing ghost parts, and the humor was on point. I loved the energy between Rain & Danny. They had some smutty and lovely moments together. It was filthy and I enjoyed every single detail. I loved Rain’s quirky family, but I’m upset we didn’t get to meet the dad. Its why we need a book 2. I need to see what the S.U.C unit is up too. LOL.

Rain sees ghost. He doesn’t want to, but he can’t help it. Coming from a medical sabbatical the only thing he wants to do is jump right back into work as a B.A.U profiler for the F.B.I., instead his boss has him working on cold cases and a case of his choosing. He never had a chance seeing as he chooses a case that puts him back at home where his family is at and his lost love. Danny is everything I love in my broody men. The Alpha dude who is possessive, protective, passionate and a damn sweetheart behind closed doors. They mesh so well together. I loved the arguments, the laughter, the steamy smutty times, and I wanted more. Why did you have to end?

I have to figure out a way to get more of these guys into another story. The writing was really solid, the case was good, the criminals were creepy. I laughed alot and found myself re-reading scenes. That’s how amazed I was. I won’t talk about the dirty, filthy, steamy scenes, but yeah read with caution or a partner next to you.

I really liked Harmon’s work. She’s a strong story teller and writer. I look forward to more work by her, and this is highly recommended! Go get the book people!

Someone is killing members of the old families…and the evidence points to Whyborne.

Widdershins has been unusually quiet for months. But now a mysterious creature from the Outside is on the loose, assassinating members of the town’s old families by draining their blood. Whyborne and Griffin set out to solve the mystery—but as the evidence piles up, the police begin to suspect Whyborne himself is the murderer.

Now Whyborne must both clear his name and stop the horrors the monster threatens to unleash. His only hope: an alliance with his old enemies the Endicotts.

Because something terrible lurks in the Draakenwood, and it will stop at nothing to seize control of the maelstrom itself.

Draakenwood is the ninth book in the Whyborne & Griffin series, where magic, mystery, and m/m romance collide with Victorian era America.

four-stars

It’s kinda hard to believe that after 9 books in this series Jordan is still making it interesting. I’ve had some of the worse times with series in the last couple of months. I can always count on Jordan. She’s a favorite of mine for a reason. I haven’t been let down, and don’t plan on being let down either.

Draakenwood picks up a while after Fallow. The guys are living together at the turn of a new century. They are wonderful, and the telephone makes its big debut. They are still trying to figure out the Fideles. Whyborne is still trying to figure out what all he can do. As of late, he’s wondering about the next big thing all the while reminiscing on easier times with his husband. I love the gradual step that they take as partners. Hawk allows each guy to grow seperately and together which I think makes for a perfect recipe.

I like that each and every book has been different and the monsters seem to get scarier. I mean its some scary things in this story. I loved seeing Whyborne & his father relationship mending right in front of us. Neither will forget what happened in this past, but they need each other now more then ever.

I won’t give the plot away, but be prepared for it to go full steam ahead. I enjoyed the new characters and development for the next story.

Another wonderful installment of the series. Cannot wait for more from her. A definite recommend!

Cop-turned-bounty-hunter Gabe Dominguez is hired to capture firestarter Nat Wyatt. For a dragon-shifter like Gabe, apprehending Nat is easy, but transporting him involves more time, energy, and blood loss than he envisioned. An attack from a band of fairies, an out-of-control forest fire, and a showdown at an auction don’t faze Gabe, but Nat’s innocence might stop him entirely.

Since discovering his abilities, Nat’s lost a best friend, a boyfriend, and trust in his brother. Only his love of concerts and card games get him through life without a home. Rumors of the Judge, a giant dragon who once destroyed half of Canada avenging those he loved, provide Nat with hope of vindication. When Nat discovers his captor is the Judge, he thinks he’s finally caught a break. Through late-night conversations and a shared love of music, Nat tries to convince Gabe he’s not guilty.

Can Gabe continue his cutthroat lifestyle, or will he run away with his dragon hoard like he’s always longed to do? Can Nat escape his legacy, or will his be another spark snuffed out by people who don’t understand? The Oracle, the most powerful wizard in Canada, might be the only one who can provide answers.

two-stars

This one was a pretty dry audiobook. The narrator’s voice wasn’t engaging enough to save this plot or make it interesting.

Gabe Dominguez was a bounty hunter hired to capture Nat Wyatt for his crime of arson. Gabe at first seems like a stoic character but clearly certain things about Nat chipped away at Gabe’s façade. As Gabe made his way with his captured prisoner in tow, Nat revealed more and more truths to where Gabe began questioning his sponsor’s intel.  There was a lot of world building as well as various supernatural characters but I didn’t feel the romance enough amongst the plot. I was hoping to “feel” instead of being told about their attraction. There were too many creatures and the author could have gradually introduced them in subsequent books.

I liked Gabe more than Nat but both characters were likeable. The story just wasn’t smooth and engaging enough and I had to really push myself to finish the audiobook. The premise was interesting but execution was a fail for me.

So close…..

Oh Charlie, you don’t know how close I was to parting ways with your series. I got so tired of Dex & Sloane taking over everyone’s stories, tired of the cliffhangers and tired of the other couple playing side characters in their stories. I was just tired. It would have been sad for me, but I would have no other choice. Along the way, the series has gotten so big that at times I forgot who is who, and what is what.

But Ms. Cochet, you’ve redeemed yourself to me. Big time. I’m not an easy series reader to please, and this felt like one of the beginning books in the series. I really liked this. It was an actual story with no cliffhangers, the minimalist of Dex, and Seb & Hudson finally gets to tell their story.

A really big reveal comes into play. I mean, I kinda figured it out, but I definitely like the direction it went in. Hopefully this means Seb & Hudson gets to play a bigger role in this series as well as a potential spin-off series. I did forget the reason for the breakup, but I did like seeing an established couple work through their problems. Is was very up and down at one point, but I understand both points of views.

This is not a standalone, and reading the series helps a lot. We get to see the main characters in their everyday lives, and how well they are able to work to one another. I got a feeling that the series is almost over for some of these people, but its a couple of people that I’d like to see have a story or novella before we leave. Zachary first and foremost, didn’t forget about him. Austen, Dom, and Alfie ;). Have to read the story to find out about that last name folks.

All in all, I think this was a really good story. Nice plot, decent amount of heat, passion, love, and angst. Yes it was a bit angsty in my opinion, but it had me sucked in from the very beginning. Charlie has redeemed herself in my eyes. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this crew.

Now this is my kind of shifter book!!

I liked this way more then book one. Not saying book one wasn’t good, but this was easy flowing, and steamy hot to read. I foresee Alec & Mark’s book coming up next! Well I’m crossing my fingers for it. Tim & Sebastian were so cute together. This book picks up almost a year later. I kinda forgot who Seb was, but it was easy to come back to. Tim was such a great character, and I’ve swooned multiple times reading him. I think fans of paranormal romance would love this book, and this series is shaping up to be Ah-Maz-Ing!

Tim being the mild mannered doctor, has such a growly possessive side that I love in my Shifters. His nurturing side came out to play on more then one occasion in this book. I liked how steadfast he was in trying to control himself, and not go back on his word pertaining Seb. Sebastian was irritating me for a while, but I had to stop and think on where he was coming from. He is adamant about not being with shifters or bonding with them. I think he was firm in his belief but he kinda has a target on his back because of his friend. I loved the energy between the two, and right off back you can see the connection. Although Seb through out so many mixed signals, and wasn’t communicating everything he felt he was able to say things when it mattered. He isn’t the best, and I would have liked for him to fall at Tim’s feet. I might be biased seeing as I really liked Tim as a character. Their was a firm amount of steamy, smutty goodness. These books faked a really good physical relationship as well. They are meant to be together in that department.

We got answers on the Alec & Nathan dilemma. Its understandable after reading on why the distance and animosity between the two. Hopefully in the next book we get to see some private time between the two. I really want Luke’s story, but for now I’m pushing Alec and Mark from the P-Pack. They definitely has sparks in their eyes at the last moment.

I think fans of pnr, shifter, m/m romance will really appreciate this book. Such excellent story telling, characters, and its building up to be a kick ass series. Jacobs did a wonderful job with book two. I definitely recommend it.

Excerpt

He looked anywhere but at Tim, embarrassment clear in his expression. Before the moment could get awkward—and giving Seb no chance to object—Tim scooped him up, bridal style, and started down the stairs.

Letting out a startled laugh, Seb clung tight to his crutch so it didn’t slip out of his hands. “Twice in one weekend. You’re going to give me a complex.”

Tim bit the inside of his cheek. If Seb knew how much he liked being able to take care of him, how much his wolf liked it, he wouldn’t find it half as amusing or embarrassing. Clearing his throat, he hitched him a little higher, then started down the stairs. “It’s just quicker this way, and I don’t want to make you late for your appointment. We’re running a little behind.”

“Fair enough.”

Not daring to meet Seb’s eyes—their faces were so close together, he didn’t like his chances of not doing something stupid like kissing him—Tim quickly made his way down the steps.

three-stars

Dear Kresley Cole,

You could have done so much better.

Okay rambling ragey review to commence.

First, I would like to know why put the first 8 chapters of a book that’s coming out in the next month or so. What’s the fecking point? I didn’t read the 8 chapters because I feel CHEATED that this book was over at 80%? Come on Kresley Cole. You should have known better. If you had some fear or backlsh from your inbred fans who is going to lash out about you writing a M/M book then you should not have done it unless you was going to GIVE IT YOUR BEST. This was freaking subpar at best. I mean, it ended. Just like that. Do we have to wait another 5 years to get a conclusion to their story? Or will you somehow write something that is worthy to us M/M folks. I am going to be really honest hear, I was so skeptical of you writing a book in this genre. I really loathe the m/f writers jumping on the band wagon of this genre just to make money. Now, I don’t believe that’s you because you have 2 successful series, and you didn’t need to write these characters. Whatever compelled you to do it, kudos to you. Hopefully it’ll convince Illona Andrews to write a Barabas & Christopher story without fear of ugly mofos protesting it.

Here’s the thing, Its a damn book. If you don’t like the subject then don’t read it or rate it. Damn, it’s so fecking simple. All you had to do was ignore it, but its completely unfair to rate a book 1 star and your dumbass didn’t read it.

The first 25% of this story was disjointed and choppy sentences. I don’t know what happened with you, but I take offense completely to you writing this. I take offense that not only was it not your best content, but you decided to leave the damn story as a cliffhanger. Why? Why not make it full length seeing as I don’t think their sequel will be a priority for you. I will straight up compare it to Sweet Ruin, oversexed and not enough plot. Its as best as I can describe it. Will the potiential problem be in the next novel coming out in April? I think not, its about a new couple we don’t know anything about. At this point, I would rater the series to be over then to drag it out and have mediocre ass writing. I’m disappointed because I’m a fan of this series, and you decided to take a genre that was everything to me, and make it absymal at best. The only position thing that saved me was that I enjoyed both characters. I really liked Mirceo & Caspion together. It’s the only reason why it got its 3 stars.

I don’t even know if I’m buying your next book.

Sincerely,

A pissed off Mika

Follow Me Into Darkness Reboot Tour

Five of the top voices in queer romance teamed up last year to give you Follow Me Into Darkness: Five Tales of Carnivale Romance. Their stories were bold, they were decadent, they were achingly sinful. They begged you to remove your masks just once and many of you listened. Their stories looked into the heart of modern day New Orleans and its steamy past, followed an errant queen in disguise, walked through the lush streets of Rio, and then continued straight on into the lofty pages of a Shakespearean soliloquy.

Mardi Gras is coming fast and Follow Me Into Darkness is back to seduce you. It’s on sale for only 99 cents from 2/26 – 3/5 plus the authors are giving you gifts and treats along the way!

For one week only, romance writers Santino Hassell, J.R. Gray, J.C. Lillis, Roan Parrish, and Kris Ripper dare you to take off your masks again…but are you ready for what might happen if you do?

About the Book:
Carnivale is a time for decadence, for revelry, and for mischief. A time when we shed the figurative masks we wear in everyday life in favor of new ones… ones that allow us to be a little bolder, a little more adventurous, and perhaps a little truer to ourselves. Follow Me Into Darkness is a compilation of original tales of queer romance by five of the premier authors of contemporary romance.

Hurricane by Santino Hassell
Interesting things never happened to Zay. He was the wallflower everyone forgot about as soon as the booze began to flow, and Mardi Gras had never been an exception. But after a chance encounter with a devil-may-care grifter, this year’s celebration brings adventure and whirlwind romance.

If We Be Friends by J.C. Lillis
Seventeen-year-old Ven should be flying high—he’s playing the title role in a new TV drama about Hamlet’s teen years, and tonight they’re having a Mardi Gras cast party in a possibly-haunted castle. But Ven’s lost all his mirth since his boyfriend suggested they “take a break,” so he plans to skip the bash and brood in his trailer all night. Then the exasperating guy who plays Horatio challenges him to a Shakespearean soliloquy-off, and Ven knows his actorly honor is at stake. He says yes to the duel, trudges off to the the party to meet his fate–and finds that more awaits him onstage than a battle of wits and words.

Masked by J.R. Gray
Blistering heat and half-naked masked men as far as the eye can see, but Heath runs into the one face it’s taken him fifteen years to forget. Javier is plagued with a life of regret, but when a second chance confronts him, can he let go of his hang-ups and seize the moment?

The Queen’s Reflection by Kris Ripper
Isah plays the role everyone expects: malleable and cautious, a true queen. But what others see as a queen’s appropriate modesty is really just a disguise for what Isah has never told anyone, the thing no one can ever know.

This body, dressed in the queen’s gowns, is a lie.

Once a year, at carnival, Isah dons someone else’s clothes and becomes them for a night. A young cook in stained whites, or a stableboy in worn breeches. As long as no one gets too close the pretense holds.

Until two strangers look past all the characters and Isah finally exposes the person behind the mask.

Touched by Roan Parrish
Sometimes when he touches people Philippe Rondeau sees their future. It’s erratic and inconvenient, but mostly he’s learned to deal with it. Sure he hasn’t found true love yet, but he has friends and lovers, and is kept busy running his family’s jazz club in Prohibition-era New Orleans. But now it’s Mardi Gras and all bets are off. In the space of one night, Philippe falls under the spell of jazz musician Claude and learns a terrible secret about his powers. If Philippe is certain of anything it’s that the future can be tricky, but the chance at love makes it all seem worthwhile.

Sequel to Smoke & Mirrors

In a matter of days, Dex has been kidnapped, tortured, killed, revived, become half Therian, offered the chance to become a spy, and accepted a proposal to marry his jaguar Therian boyfriend, Sloane Brodie. It’s been a lot to take in, and although Dex is still trying to wrap his head around everything that’s happened, he knows he has to move forward.

After the events of Smoke & Mirrors, Dex and Sloane find themselves in one of the most frightening situations of all: revealing the truth to their Destructive Delta family. When the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same, and it’s up to Dex to prove that in the face of change, the one thing that will always remain the same is family.

My Exasperated face.

I don’t know when I started thinking of this series as a job. Its been a lot of information thrown at us, and sometimes so hard to remember everything. I think we are heading to the end of the series, because the direction is going somewhere new. I honestly hope it does, as much as I love Sloane I’m kinda tired of him and Dex being the focal point of the stories. I get it they are team lead, and them being together works for the series. But it’s convoluted now, and it stopped being about the pnr aspect of it and it’s to damn sweet now. I like the relationships and everyone partnering up, but out of the 8 books 2 of them wasn’t Dex & Sloane.

This book had little tidbits going for the next story, and where the road was going to go. Do I think it was needed? No, it could have been a prologue for the next story. I’m at a crossroads on if I want to continue it because its gotten out of hand with the antics. I miss the first half of the series. It’s common because I just had this problem with another series. I am looking forward to Hud & Seb’s book. I hope they get to spend majority of their time in the book being the focus. I swear if it’s Dex & his antics like it was in the other books then I’m done. I hate to say it, but I just can’t deal with it anymore.
