Dr. Malak Shahzed moved to the small town of Goodfields for a quiet practice and a chance to leave his other life behind. Finding kind and handsome Sheriff Shiloh Payne is a bonus. Their relationship is mostly stolen glances and innocent meetings, but Malak wants to play doctor with Shiloh—if the sheriff feels the same.

All is not well in Goodfields. After each PTA meeting, the body of a single man is found torn apart by a wild animal, and the town is getting nervous.

Murder is complicating Malak’s seduction of Shiloh, especially since he knows more than he is willing to admit. Because sane people don’t believe in werewolves…. Do they?

Okay. So this one didn’t work for me and I am bummed at that. Maybe it’s my fault for thinking the title would involve more of a cute scenario with the whole PTA deal and schools and… yeah, I really thought that would be in the book but it wasn’t and now I’m totes confused.

So, Malak is a doctor and something else but we don’t know what. We know he likes the Sheriff, aka Shiloh, of the small town he has moved to for a change… why the change and what he is looking for again, we don’t know but it’s hinted at A LOT. We also know there is a string of murders that seem to be related and seem to be of more animal based than human and so there must be shifters about somewhere, right?

Before I get too into the story, I do want to say I liked the take on the differences between what a Were  was and what a Shifter is. The explanation was detailed so that I got it and that I liked the line drawn between the two. Now having said that, it was about the only thing that was detailed, organized and made sense through the book.

I am not going to go into what I didn’t work for me as this is a short story… sigh. This had a so much potential to be really good and interesting but it really fell flat. I wish Shiloh had stayed with the shy personality we got in the beginning instead of the sex machine we get later. Had we learned more about Malak and what Faysal were and maybe just … I wish Malak would have not played the ‘I’m not what you think I am card’ less and crap, I don’t know.

This had again, potential to be a great story had it been longer, maybe? Ugh.

About Felicitas Ivey

Felicitas Ivey is the pen name of a very frazzled helpdesk drone at a Boston-area university. She’s an eternal student even with a BA in anthropology and history, since free classes are part of the benefits. She’s taken courses on gothic architecture, premodern Japanese literature, and witchcraft, just because they sounded like fun. She has traveled to Japan and Europe and hopes to return to both in the future.

She knits and cross-stitches avidly, much to the disgust of her cat, Smaugu, who wants her undivided attention. He’s also peeved that she spends so much time writing instead of petting him. She writes urban fantasy and horror of a Lovecraftian nature, monsters beyond space and time that think that humans are the tastiest things in the multiverse.

Felicitas lives in Boston with her beloved husband, known to all as The Husband, and the aforementioned cat, whom the husband swears is a demon, even though it’s his fault that they have the cat. The husband also is worried about Felicitas’s anime habit, her love for J-Pop music, and her extensive collection of Yaoi manga and Gundam Wing doujinshi, which has turned her library into a Very Scary Place for him.

Anthony’s had the day from hell at his call center job, and he plans to drink away the memory, so he finds the nearest club and gets started. Lucky for him there’s an attractive man in the crowd who’s willing to act without too many questions. A hot trip to the back of the bar and some heavy action is in order.

The next morning Anthony wakes in an unfamiliar bed to a hellish headache and the heavenly scent of coffee. He didn’t ask questions the night before, so why ask them now? Okay, maybe one. Why does his attractive one-night stand have feathers?

This was really a good story… or a good start to a story? I mean, it’s super short at only 21 pages but I liked what I got.

Short story = Short review.

Anthony has had a bad day, goes to a bar to get drunk and forget about it. Once at the bar, he sees a hot guy and catches his eye. Anthony is full of liquid courage so he makes his way to the back room of the bar to get it on with said hot guy… and then passes out.

Hot guy is also a good guy and takes Anthony home to sleep off the booze but when Anthony wakes up, he is in for a surprise.

Now as the blurb says, Anthony’s one night stand has feathers and I love how all of that took place but I won’t go into detail because again, super short story.

To me, this was like the ultimate fantasy story of someone who loves reading shifter books *raises hand* and what would happen if you ended up sleeping with a shifter. I mean, it would freak you out for a second or two but then…

Sure, it was worlds different from the rest, but whatever. I could roll with it. I mean who the hell ever got a chance to fuck a shape-shifter?

My thoughts exactly.

I would love to get more of these two as this truly read like a prologue to a much longer story about a human meeting and falling for a feathered shifter. Maybe it is, maybe I’ll just imagine all that could happen with them and be okay? Who knows, but this was a nice short story with a whole heck of a lot of promise to be more.

About Jessica Walsh

Jessica Walsh knows there’s this feeling, when you read a good book, that the world around you melts away to reveal new universes that stretch beyond your imagination. For a good portion of her life, Jessica has chased that feeling by reading books and delving into fantastic worlds that were always so far away.

But that wasn’t enough.

Experiencing those fantasy worlds could only work for so long and soon there was the urge to bring it here, to the real world, so others could feel the magic she felt with each turn of the page. She does this in her writing by bringing a feeling of realism to her stories. By combining monsters, magic, and mythical creatures with the world we all live in, it’s not too hard to consider a bookstore owner with the power to change the words on a page, or a performer who can make flowers grow in his hand. However normal the story may start, there’s always something lurking in the background, ready to hint at something more.

Now she’s on a journey to share her creations with everyone. She travels to various conventions and presents her written escapes to the people around her, expressing her creativity with her words, her crafts, and her sewing. She’s combined the favorite aspects of her life to show the wonderful fantasies that exist in our everyday lives.

Caden Wells is finally on his way to the Alaskan wilderness, fulfilling a dream he’s had since he was a boy. He’s looking forward to solitary hikes and photographing wildlife. Upon arrival, he’s drawn to his guide’s brother, Drake Fisher, a man who resembles beast more than man. Drake’s unexpected interest surprises Caden, but when Drake claims fate has brought them together and that he’s a shapeshifter, Caden’s confusion turns to shock.

With the help of Drake’s brother, Dean, and Dean’s family, Caden realizes there must be some truth to Drake’s story. On his way to question Drake, the knowledge in his heart that something is wrong is confirmed by reports of poachers in the area. Caden sets out to save Drake, along with the life and love that have been waiting for him in Alaska all along.

Gah this is another cute shifter story in the A Walk on the Wild Side Daily Delivery Dose. I am finding myself giddy with these short stories.

Short story = Short review

What do you do when all your dreams come true? For Caden, he gets to find out. You see, all his life he has loved bears, loved the wilderness and dreamed of going to Alaska. When he finally does, he meets the grumpily bear of a man who is the twin of his tour guide and well…a true bear of a man. *giggles*
This was really cute. I loved that Drake was known as Mr. Grumpy until Caden showed up. I am a sucker for fated mates and this has a great twist on the human and shifter component of a love story.
Drake was so sweet explaining what he is to Caden and what they are to one another and Caden’s reaction was understandable. When you can’t explain it with logic, go with your gut and what you feel. For Caden, that included a bit of cuddling with a cub that was just adorable. I loved that Caden was able to come to terms with not only what he was feeling but that basically, his life led him  to Drake and his new life among bears. *sigh* This was just too damn cute for me to review without gushing… I just loved the heck out of it and I got a kick out of Caden being so adept at saving the day.
The epilogue… man, my teeth hurt from it but I will endure the pain because that type of sweetness is what I crave.

Dustin Charleston has just been traded to the Arizona Hares hockey team. As an otter, he’s not too pleased by this. Arizona is dry, he’s leaving his home behind, and he has to move in with a stranger. Things take an even steeper plunge when he meets his roommate.

Chandler Kipling is the captain of the Hares, a least weasel, and he’s got a bit of a thing for his new teammate. Too bad that teammate seems to hate him. And Chandler’s romantic strategies leave something to be desired. Will Dustin be able to get the message he’s trying to send? With a little time, their nightmare might turn into a dream—if they can get past their differences.

This book. I have never before wanted to fill a review full of fluffy gif’s and adorable AF images of Otters and Least Weasels because they really were adorable AF! I can’t get over this book and I don’t want to because simply thinking about it makes me smile and brings the happiest of tears to my eyes.

Short story, short(ish?) review.

Dustin is an otter shifter who has just been traded to a new hockey team in Arizona. For an otter, that is not really a good thing since they love the water. But Dustin will do what he has to so he can play the sport he loves, even when that comes at the cost of his living space. You see, Dustin needs a place to crash until he can get his stuff from Michigan and he opts to room with one of his teammates. When said teammate picks him up at the airport, I lost my cool. OMG! Chandler… how can someone be so damn swoony and hot in his human form and then turn me to a big puddle of good in is weasel form?? Ack. I can’t take it.

Seriously. This book is fun and it’s beyond adorable. I loved the team and all the shifters that are on it. I am not a big hockey fan but I would sit through a game just to have Marc shift and crawl into my lap when it was all done. I just want to be a fly on the wall at Chandler’s place and watch the pool party happen because it was amazing to read. I loved it. The only fault, if you call it one, with this book is the length because I want more. I want more of Chris and Dustin doing their otter things. I want more of Chandler being alpha with Dustin and them playing on the ice in any form. I just want more and I want to go hug my Nook because this story, these boy need to be hugged by a silly ginger who can’t get enough.

So, wait. Did I say anything about the story? Um, it’s hockey players who shift, who seem to irritate the hell out one another on the ice… um,  The Cutting Edge has taught us, that’s all just foreplay *toe pick!*… but at the end, these two are super swoony, super freaking adorable, super fluffy and this story made me beyond happy!

I liked this.

A lot.
