In the small mountain town of Amorea, it’s stretching toward autumn of 1954. The memories of a world at war are fading in the face of a prosperous future. Doors are left unlocked at night, and neighbors are always there to give each other a helping hand.

The people here know certain things as fact:

Amorea is the best little town there is.

The only good Commie is a dead Commie.

The Women’s Club of Amorea runs the town with an immaculately gloved fist.

And bookstore owner Mike Frazier loves that boy down at the diner, Sean Mellgard. Why they haven’t gotten their acts together is anybody’s guess. It may be the world’s longest courtship, but no one can deny the way they look at each other.

Slow and steady wins the race, or so they say.

But something’s wrong with Mike. He hears voices in his house late at night. There are shadows crawling along the walls, and great clouds of birds overhead that only he can see.

Something’s happening in Amorea. And Mike will do whatever he can to keep the man he loves.

**a bunch of rambling thoughts to proceed**

There’s not much you can say without spoiling the book for everyone. That’s not me, and even if I wanted to spoil it, I don’t know what to say. It’s been a 1 1/2 days since I’ve read it and I’m not certain how I feel. I feel a lot of things but I don’t can’t really get the words out. T.J. said this was his most romantic book. I can see that, and then I hate him for it. Kudos to myself for figuring it out.

I want to say for 98% of the story I felt unsure. It was something going on in the pit of my stomach the entire time. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I was scared. I was scared for the MC’s and the unknown. I don’t know how I feel about the story. I enjoyed the writing as usual. It’s T.J., it’s why I like him so much. The story itself leaves me feeling blue. It’s depressing in a sense, it’s not happiness. I can’t say at any moment in the book did I feel joy. I’m left with a ton of questions, and maybe that’s good. I do like how T.J. left certain things open to interpretation in my opinion. I mean, I’d like to think a certain situation went one way but he wrote it another without the definitive of answering questions.

I’m at a complete lost of words and don’t want to continue rambling on. I can’t say anything without spoiling it. It’s a really well written book. I don’t know if I’d classify it as a romance. Romance does happen but I think it’s subjective by the end of the story. I do tell you one thing, TJ writes some spooky, intense reads. This makes me want to go read How To Be A Normal Person all over again so I can be happy!

About TJ Klune

When TJ Klune was eight, he picked up a pen and paper and began to write his first story (which turned out to be his own sweeping epic version of the video game Super Metroid—he didn’t think the game ended very well and wanted to offer his own take on it. He never heard back from the video game company, much to his chagrin). Now, two decades later, the cast of characters in his head have only gotten louder, wondering why he has to go to work as a claims examiner for an insurance company during the day when he could just stay home and write.

He lives with a neurotic cat in the middle of the Sonoran Desert. It’s hot there, but he doesn’t mind. He dreams about one day standing at Stonehenge, just so he can say he did.

After a decade of serving in the Army, everyone still expects me to be Dominic ‘Nicky’ Costigan–the skirt-chasing player. They don’t know I’ve been spending my days trying to figure out my post-military life. Including how to pick up guys.

When I meet Luke on a hookup app, he makes it clear it’s for one-night only. That’s fine with me, because I’m down to see what this silver fox can do. But after I arrive at his doorstep, it doesn’t take long to realize we have serious chemistry, and we end up meeting again.

He’s got more walls around his heart than a military base, but I think he’s as addicted to me as I am to him. He can’t resist me for long. I mean, who can? Except Luke’s rules exist for a reason, and when I test his limits, things get complicated. Maybe too complicated.

*FAST CONNECTION is a standalone, full-length romance novel with no cliffhanger*

five-stars

Honestly, Erickson & Hassell should be around hear screaming….

This book was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. I loved every second of it. I read it in one sitting. Then I waited a couple of days later to read it again! Man, look it’s super hard for me to top my love from Strong Signal. FFS, I own it in paperback and e-book form. I live for Garrett’s grumpy ass and red panda gifs highlight my day. How were they going to top it? Well for starters they were going to take the asshat from Strong Signal and make him the love interest?

Huh??? Why?? Not only do they take Costigan and make him the lead, but then they make him the filty mouth, vulnerable douche bag who you love. GAH!!!! I loved him in this book. He’s coming to terms with his sexuality, while trying to find some footing in his life. His home life sucks big time. It’s an crazy amount of tension, and after so many years in the military he’s working at a Deli. No that’s not good enough for Costigan. Hell it wasn’t good enough for me. Enters grindr, and then Silver Fox.

Good Lord, the man is so hot. Them together were scorching up the place. Yeah it’s official these two know how to write a scene and pull you under.

Luke is a total DILF!!! If I was single and he was real, we’ll be together somehow. Luke is on the cusp of 40 with two teenage kids, and an ex-wife. He doesn’t want a relationship, he just wants sex. What I loved about his character was that he was such a hard ass. Constantly keeping Costigan away but needing him so much more. I loved to see the internal struggle on realizing that Dominic is what he wants. I think the authors did a fabulous job with the plot. I loved how both guys how their own obligations to their families, but knew how to get what they want. I wish I could spoil everything for you, but I won’t. I really enjoyed this book. I can’t praise it enough. I most likely will read it again before the week is over.

Erickson & Hassell should feel like this…

About Megan Erickson

Megan Erickson is a former journalist who switched to fiction when she decided she liked writing her own endings better. She likes to pretend she has control now, but usually her characters are the ones who hold the reins. Her romance novels have a touch of humor, a dash of nerdy, and always a happily ever after.

She lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, two kids, and two cats named after John Hughes characters. She’s still waiting for the party she was promised when she grew to five feet… maybe because she never got there.

About Santino Hassell

Santino was raised by a conservative family, but he was anything but traditional. He grew up to be a smart-mouthed grunge kid, then a transient twenty-something, and eventually transformed into a guy who spends his days and nights writing romance with an edge.

Santino is a dedicated gamer, a former fanfic writer, an ASoIaF mega nerd, a Grindr enthusiast, but most of all he is a writer of queer fiction that is heavily influenced by the gritty, urban landscape of New York City, his belief that human relationships are complex and flawed, and his own life experiences.

Ox was twelve when his daddy taught him a very valuable lesson. He said that Ox wasn’t worth anything and people would never understand him. Then he left.

Ox was sixteen when he met the boy on the road, the boy who talked and talked and talked. Ox found out later the boy hadn’t spoken in almost two years before that day, and that the boy belonged to a family who had moved into the house at the end of the lane.

Ox was seventeen when he found out the boy’s secret, and it painted the world around him in colors of red and orange and violet, of Alpha and Beta and Omega.

Ox was twenty-three when murder came to town and tore a hole in his head and heart. The boy chased after the monster with revenge in his bloodred eyes, leaving Ox behind to pick up the pieces.

It’s been three years since that fateful day—and the boy is back. Except now he’s a man, and Ox can no longer ignore the song that howls between them.

four-half-stars

Crying in the first 10% is always a good sign. I love T.J. and he did a shifter story has made me so freaking ecstatic!!! I love his writing, and I always refer to him as two writing settings. It’s either humor, or serious. I love the serious side more. I would categorize this as serious. It had its funny moments, but overall between the tears, tears, tears and the AMOUNT of ANGST it was a ridiculously good shifter story. I don’t know much more to say then what everyone else is raving about.

“Rawr and grr and kaboom?”
“And the smells!” he cried.
“Can’t forget about those,” the man next to her said faintly. “Candy canes and pine cones and epic awesome.”

It’s a really good story, and by now if you are use to T.J. and his stories you know he’s long winded. Sometimes it is repetitive. I’d like to think he does it to invoke certain emotions in us during that scene. Or that is how I like to state to myself. His writing is great as usual, and I like the spurts of humor that’s involved in it. These are some really great characters. Ox and Joe have wiggled their way into my heart through love, anger and loyalty. I can say this has been one of the most physical books from T.J. He doesn’t do passion, and steamy sex. I’m fine with that, because I love his stories, but this was a different side to him. I really liked it.

I won’t go on and on about my utter disdain for the separation between the two. Some times people need to separate in order to make it last in the long run. But J.H.Christ, I literally felt like I was dying. It was such an emotional moment for me. The tale that T.J wove was so different from other shifter stories, but has some of the classic originals that I love. The entire mate trope is a favorite of mine, and seeing Joe & Ox at a young age until they got older was anguish on my part but so much love throughout the end. I really am stuck for words, so many people have loved this already and everything that I can say is most likely already done. I loved all the characters, I even liked the cheesy cartoon villain and his nerve for extended monologues. I’ve highlighted the crap out of this book. I think the quote above has stuck with me the most. It’s the most coolest way to describe someone you are destined to be. I will say bring tissues!!! Lot’s of Kleenex but you go through an emotional journey as usual reading his books. I love him for it.

Chase never had many friends, but at college, he meets and forms close ties with straight jock Tyler Davidson—a connection he fears he’ll lose if he tells Tyler he’s gay. Keeping his sexuality secret becomes harder for Chase as he joins Tyler and his family at their idyllic lake house for the summer. It grows more and more difficult for Chase to avoid Tyler’s attempts to set him up with girls, and he’s tired of making excuses. Chase is ready to embrace the man he is, but he’s afraid of what it will cost him.

The Davidsons seem like the perfect family, but Chase soon realizes there’s trouble in paradise. Tyler’s dad, Nathan, has done everything to make a good life for his wife and children—including suppressing his sexuality and denying his needs for years. But like Chase, Nathan is growing weary of living a lie. What begins as an offer of support from Chase grows into an unexpected attraction that will have profound effects on everyone. Chase and the Davidsons are about to learn that there’s no such thing as a perfect family, but that perfection isn’t a requirement for friendship and love.

three-stars

I’m glad I’m not the only one left feeling like this after reading this book. I do think that certain things should have been in the beginning of this book. Like, I don’t know that it was a freaking movie first. I could have watched it somewhere instead of taking my time and getting invested into the story. I mean not once did I overly complain that it wasn’t a damn romance or that it 4 different p.o.v. I mean 4!!! I was okay with the dreary tone of the story. I was okay with the Stepford Wife Stacey, and the Entitled Tyler. I even put up with the aloofness of Nate. Most memorable character belonged to the 10 year old Birdie! I adored her, everything else gets me ragey mad. No wait, it gets me mad. The treatment of Chase in this story gets me mad. Don’t get me wrong, I understand he played his part in this Telenova, but No One, No One treated him right. He’s a kid at the end of the day and yeah he’s only 20.

This entire family is wrapped around the notion that they are perfect and living the American dream. Well hate to rain on your parade sweetheart, but most people lives aren’t perfect. They are living in an illusion of their lives. I mean I can understand Nate and Stacey were high school sweethearts who became teenage parents at the age of 16. They didn’t have a chance to grow up or experience things like normal young adults. They have to become parents early and doing so Nate repressed a side of himself that he never got to experience. I was able to deal with the tone and pacing of the story. It’s not a romance at all. Everything seemed to implode in one weekend. Chase basically has no one that cares about him. He talks a little about his alcoholic mother and his father died when he was younger. So he’s done everything by himself and he then he enrolls into a university after working hard at a junior college. There he meets his straight jock best friend Tyler. That’s how he seems Tyler. Tyler who comes from the perfect family with a summer beach house. The summer beach house is where lives comes to be destroyed it seems. Tyler’s entire reaction at Chase not telling him he was gay was b.s. imo. He was that heartbroken, did he not understand why Chase never said anything? I literally wanted to punch him in the face a couple of times. He was clueless, and selfish. GTFO about being hurt because he didn’t share it with you. I won’t give away the plot in case some miserable sap decides to read this. Just know it’s not a HFN or HEA. It’s just ends. Really after all of this shit, Chase is left with no one, Stacey has to get a real personality, Tyler needs to come up off that pedestal and Nate gets to drive off in the sunset with some resolutions to work out amongst himself. Sure. That’s fine. Well let me explain my rating, I was enjoying the story all the way up until the 85% mark. I couldn’t rate 0 stars, that seemed unfair even though my thoughts are telling me too. At one point I was think 4.25 stars because after all of ranting I was still liking the book, but then it ended and after all the F bombs I throw at it, I had to think impartially and like a reader. So I went with the cordial 3.

Roman “Quick” Webb is one badass bounty hunter on the crime-filled streets of Atlanta. He’s fearless when it comes to carrying out his dangerous job alongside his longtime best friend and business partner, Duke. However, there is one thing that has begun to cause Quick concern and it’s the dreadful thought of living out the rest of his life alone. Seeing his best friend and his son fall in love and sharing the special connection that only true soulmates can, has made him all the more aware of what’s lacking in his life.

Love.

Dr. Cayson Chauncey has been wildly attracted to the big, tattooed hunter for almost a year, ever since he performed the surgery that saved Quick’s best friend’s life. Cayson must’ve mistaken Quick’s gratitude for something more, because the one time he tried to make his desires known, he was harshly rebuffed and left on the man’s doorstep feeling stupid for hitting on an obviously very straight man.

Cayson never dated a man who was willing to come out of hiding and be with him. Now at almost forty, Cayson is intent on no longer being anyone’s dirty secret. Having experienced countless disappointments, and having taken a stand not to fall for any more tricks, Cayson is more than a little skeptical when Quick comes around asking for a second chance to prove himself. The gorgeous man had already made it clear that he was not interested in Cayson… or so he’d thought.

Dr. Chauncey stirred up Quick’s suppressed, most carnal desires from a place deep down inside of him. He’d reacted so badly the first time that now his sexy surgeon wanted nothing to do with him. It was going to take a fair amount of patience and a whole lot of wooing involved as Quick sets out to convince Cayson that he’s worth another chance and that he is the brave lover who Cayson has been looking for.

With a scorned ex and a very dangerous job thrown into the mix, Cayson’s happiness and all of Quick’s promises may not be as easy to keep as they’d hoped.

three-stars

Good gracious. I’m seriously considering buying myself a hand fan when I read A.E. Via books. They have some of my favorite smutty moments ever. I’m pretty sure I created a shelf called “Smutty Goodness” because of her. LOL. This book was no different. We met Quick and Cayson in Duke & Vaughn story. Cayson was super attracted to Quick, but Quick was being a grade A douche bag. Fast forward to now and Quick has decided to explore his bisexuality. It’s something that he’s been interested in but never seemed to have time for it. He was married to a woman, and then explored more women. I honestly think it was seeing his best friend and son get together that made him be willing to start off.

Dr. Cayson was such a sweetheart to me. I liked him, and even though I felt like he was a total cliche blonde when it came to Joe I was able to overcome that. I should say barely with tons of my rolling my eyes moments. But with these books I always feel like i’m watching a cheesy action movie which I kinda low key love those because I always figure things out between the good guys and the villains. I do like the approach that Quick did to show Cayson he was ready to invest into him. I like the insta-love. Yeah, yeah I’m usually against it, but again when it comes to this series, I can’t seem to stop myself. I’m so looking forward to Ford & Dana’s book.

Why not 4 stars? It was super fast insta-love and the plot wasn’t really a plot or hard to figure out. I would have liked for it to be straight contemporary then make up some potential thread that shouldn’t be there. Cayson said he and Joe weren’t even serious. And now for Joe to seriously get he’s mine not yours seemed too over the top for me. I will continue to read Ms. Via work because God shows up in it and he’s so mine.
