Cop-turned-bounty-hunter Gabe Dominguez is hired to capture firestarter Nat Wyatt. For a dragon-shifter like Gabe, apprehending Nat is easy, but transporting him involves more time, energy, and blood loss than he envisioned. An attack from a band of fairies, an out-of-control forest fire, and a showdown at an auction don’t faze Gabe, but Nat’s innocence might stop him entirely.

Since discovering his abilities, Nat’s lost a best friend, a boyfriend, and trust in his brother. Only his love of concerts and card games get him through life without a home. Rumors of the Judge, a giant dragon who once destroyed half of Canada avenging those he loved, provide Nat with hope of vindication. When Nat discovers his captor is the Judge, he thinks he’s finally caught a break. Through late-night conversations and a shared love of music, Nat tries to convince Gabe he’s not guilty.

Can Gabe continue his cutthroat lifestyle, or will he run away with his dragon hoard like he’s always longed to do? Can Nat escape his legacy, or will his be another spark snuffed out by people who don’t understand? The Oracle, the most powerful wizard in Canada, might be the only one who can provide answers.

two-stars

This one was a pretty dry audiobook. The narrator’s voice wasn’t engaging enough to save this plot or make it interesting.

Gabe Dominguez was a bounty hunter hired to capture Nat Wyatt for his crime of arson. Gabe at first seems like a stoic character but clearly certain things about Nat chipped away at Gabe’s façade. As Gabe made his way with his captured prisoner in tow, Nat revealed more and more truths to where Gabe began questioning his sponsor’s intel.  There was a lot of world building as well as various supernatural characters but I didn’t feel the romance enough amongst the plot. I was hoping to “feel” instead of being told about their attraction. There were too many creatures and the author could have gradually introduced them in subsequent books.

I liked Gabe more than Nat but both characters were likeable. The story just wasn’t smooth and engaging enough and I had to really push myself to finish the audiobook. The premise was interesting but execution was a fail for me.

He’s not letting her go…

Someone is targeting one of them, and Bo doesn’t know why. When they’re thrown into a hell realm together, he and Nyx will need to band together if they want to survive the perils of that world. No matter who was behind the attack, his choice is clear. Defend Nyx at all cost and make her his forever.

four-stars

In this installment, Nyx works at Bo’s bar, while hiding from her family for reasons unbeknownst to her employer. Nyx is simply tired of being a pawn in her family’s pursuit of power and so she wears glamour and works as a waitress while nursing an attraction to her boss.

Bo, half demon, half human bar owner, also nurses an attraction to Nyx but they both fight it for different reasons. When Nyx’s family finally try to bring her home, Bo steps in to protect her which leads them to give in to their passion.

Bo and Nyx’s story was a bit angsty, which I loved but it was truly entertaining. There was great chemistry, and a passionate love story. I was surprised to learn the full extent of Nyx’s heritage. I was happy to know that Bo had half siblings. I love that the author keeps the prior couples integral to the story and everyone is connected is some way. It is action-packed, sexy and full of all kinds of supernaturals. There were unexpected twists and turns, but the end was satisfying. This series is the best dragon shifter series I’ve listened to and one of the best PNR series out there. I look forward to the next book.

Kai Gracen has no intention of being anyone’s pawn. A pity Fate and SoCalGov have a different opinion on the matter.

Licensed Stalkers make their living hunting down monsters and dangerous criminals… and their lives are usually brief, brutal, and thankless. Despite being elfin and cursed with a nearly immortal lifespan, Kai didn’t expect to be any different. Then Ryder, the High Lord of the Southern Rise Court, arrived in San Diego, Kai’s not-so-mundane life went from mild mayhem to full-throttle chaos.

Now an official liaison between the growing Sidhe Court and the human populace, Kai is at Ryder’s beck and call for anything a High Lord might need a Stalker to do. Unfortunately for Kai, this means chasing down a flimsy rumor about an ancient lost Court somewhere in the Nevada desert—a court with powerful magics that might save Ryder—and Kai’s—people from becoming a bloody memory in their Merged world’s violent history.

The race for the elfin people’s salvation opens unwelcome windows into Kai’s murky past, and it could also slam the door on any future he might have with his own kind and Ryder

four-stars

I think everyone knows, I’d read a pamphlet and gush about it if it was written by Rhys Ford. That’s how I feel about this story. It was good, I might have been semi-emotional at certain points, but Kai will make you do that. This book he had to deal with family big time! Whether it was the nutty bunch or the surrogate family that sculpted him into who he is today. We also got to see Kai’s feelings for Ryder progress. This was super packed with adventure. I mean from page 1 up until the very end. Loved seeing Kai in all his sassy glory, and the twisty turns that the story produced.

One reason why, I’m so enamored with Rhys writing is because she is always able to drawn that emotion out of her characters. Even in a story like this, I found myself misty eyed a time or two. We get to see Kai in all his protective glory this round. Yeah it’s nice to know that he’d go all out his way to protect Dempsey, Jonas, Dali, Sparky and now Ryder. Kai has such a vulnerability about himself, it’s my favorite attribute of his outside of his witty come backs of course.

I don’t miss the romance or the sexual aspect of the relationship. I definitely can see it heading that way, and boy when it hits Kai is going to be super snarky. It’s a slow burn on anything physical between the two. Ryder wants to own Kai. Not in the possession sense, more of showing him how great love can be. I do think Ryder has slowly but surely broke some of Kai’s defenses down, and book 3 is going to give me all the feels when this happens. I’m putting it out in the universe!

I’m not one for world building, but with this story it was all about the descriptions. I loved reading how things were to Kai. The sight, smell, the taste and all of the abstracts that goes into San Diego. I love how Kai fights for his humanity, even when humanity is a giant pile of sh** to him at times. The secondary characters were a great add-in to this adventure. I don’t feel let down at all. I wish Rhys could write a book every 3 months just so I can read her words. I liked this, but I’m not surprised. The woman is bloody talented!!! I definitely recommend this book to everyone, and get book 1 first.

Simone Brightston knows she can beat the rap her enemies are pinning on her. An Irish witch is nobody's fool, and she didn't get to her position on the high council without serious power. But her cousins want her to hide out--and they somehow convinced her arch nemesis to play getaway driver.

Of all the men she's known, Nikolaj Veis is the hardest to intimidate. With his demon-dark eyes and his inscrutable beauty, he's as desirable as he is dangerous. And he knows better than to underestimate Simone. So when he pulls up on a roaring bike and tells her to climb on or fight it out, she grabs a handful of jacket and holds on tight. Running from the law may not be the smartest plan. But when it comes to Nick, hot pursuit and a blazing fast ride are exactly what Simone's looking for . . .

Includes the brand new Dark Protectors novella, ‘Talen’!
five-stars

I truly savored this book. Nikolaj Veis and Simone Brighton’s book had it all, suspense, mystery, romance, and all kinds of supernatural creatures. It was definitely the best in the series. I’ve been waiting for Simone Brighton’s reckoning, though I had an inkling she was being set up to take the fall as a bad guy. What I didn’t count on was the redemption of Nikolaj. Between his staunch defense of her integrity, his persistence in regaining her love, Nikolaj showed why he was worthy of Simone. I loved everything about this book. I found the novel passionate and the words just moved me. The narrator Brock Thompson was PERFECT for this story. His voice was smooth like butter and it flowed so well with the story.
Biker guy
These two characters are not new if you have read the Dark Protector series. They appear as far back as book 3, Hunted, but this the first time we get the background story as well as their mission as it pertains to the survival of their race. Simone, a witch, was being groomed to take her mother’s seat as one of the Coven Council’s Nine. Nikolaj is the demon advisor who we later learned protected Zane and now we learned why he played both sides of the fence.

Someone has gone through a lot of trouble to frame Simone as the distributor of the mineral planekite, a drug destroying the supernaturals. Now that she is up on charges of treason, Nick is tasked with protecting her until her trial. Old feelings resurface and Nick has an opportunity to regain the love he gave up in order to fulfill his duty to the Zane and the demon realm.

What I loved about this book is that it felt more like a Dark Protector novel than this new Wicked Realm series. I honestly haven’t warmed to these pretentious witches but I loved the vampire and demon interactions. The action was non-stop; the chemistry between Simone and Nikolaj was intense.

“I mated you because I’ve loved you from the first moment I laid eyes upon you a century ago…many soldiers in war wonder if they have a heart…I’ve never wondered …because you are in it and always have been. My heart is yours and always will be. Everything I have done in this life from the good to the truly terrible has been to make the world a better place for you and for any children we may have. Everything I am and will ever be belongs solely to you. No woman has ever been more loved than you are right now Simone.”

That declaration of love was just everything I had been expecting and more. I felt it in my heart. The feeling those words invoke is exactly why I read romance novels. Fervent adoration and love is so sexy and Nikolaj was very sexy. This second chance romance was so enjoyable because you get to see the growth in the characters from their first go-around with love. Both Simone and Nick have honed their abilities, made a mark with their respective group of people and now it’s time to deal with what broke them up. They are adults now and are clear on what they want. Nikolaj goes right in and took no prisoners.

The secondary characters added meat to this novel, specifically Bear. I can’t wait for more stories about him. This story ended with many things unresolved like the true identity of the antagonist, the distributor of deadly drug and Simone’s status with Coven unresolved. I can’t wait to continue the journey with the Realm Enforcers.

About Rebecca Zanetti

Rebecca Zanetti wrote her first story when she was six – a romance between a princess and neighboring prince. The princess fell out of her castle and the prince rescued her. A happily ever after was had by all.

This theme of romance has been carried through Rebecca’s works until present time. While today’s heroine may have a medical degree, black belt in Karate and her own 401K, she’s still after that happy ending. And today’s prince may have fangs and wear a black hat, but hey, a modern princess likes a guy who bites.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides there with her husband, children and extended family who inspire her every day.

A vampire mage, a Romani young man, and a forbidden love that won’t be denied.

Lord Taliesin Solitaire was born albino, cursed mute by the fey, and betrayed by a vampire lover. For two hundred years the vampire mage has vowed never to love again and has only used sex as a means to a meal. Until a palm-reading gypsy finds himself in peril and Taliesin can’t resist rescuing the beautiful young man.

Pesha is the eldest but smallest son of King Vaida Sinclair, the oppressive ruler of the Kåle Romani Compania. Deemed impure by his father, Pesha is shunned and mistreated by his band and six half-brothers, and one brother in particular wants him dead. His pale, silent savior gives him safety, security and a love he never could have imagined. As Pesha falls in love with his handsome white knight, his half-brother does the unthinkable.

Can Taliesin rescue Pesha from the cruel clutches of his half-brother a second time?

four-half-stars

A sleight of heart cannot be taken back. These things cannot be undone…

Wow. What an amazingly rich, beautiful and deeply magical story this was. I am at a loss for words to describe what I just read but I will give it a try.

We meet Taliesin, a centuries old vampire as he watches a young gypsy do what he does best, make money off the masses believing in his tricks. As Taliesin watches, we get glimpses into his life and begin to learn about him; we know he was in love once, we know he was born an albino with lavender eyes and we know he thinks the young gypsy boy is possibly the most beautiful thing he has ever seen.

The beginning pages of the book lead us through head-hopping between Taliesin and the gypsy boy, aks Pesha, while they navigate their night and have an eye on one another. You see, unbeknownst to either man – the other has felt and visualized their presence more than once and simply because introductions aren’t formally made, doesn’t mean they aren’t known but when someone tries to cheat Pesha, Taliesin steps in and the sweetest moments between the two begin. Now while head-hopping usually fails for me, this worked well as the scene played out and you are IN the scene… just as you should be.

I loved Taliesin and his back story. How he became a father to the lovely Feather and the feelings he holds toward her mother though it left him cursed. The curse, ugh I was worried how it would be dealt with and how it would all play out with Pesha – I am still new to the world of magic/fantasy – but I loved how it happened. I mean, how romantic is it that you are cursed to be mute but the man you are attracted to has the ability to hear your thoughts? *swoon*

Pesha is the type of character I want to cuddle and coddle. He lives the way he does because he’s told to and he believes the things he wants are wrong. He internally fights with his desire of men sexuality yet yearns to be loved and wanted. He is on his own mostly as he works and one night when the ones who should protect him – his own family – attack him and Taliesin steps in as the… well white knight and rescues him.

Yeah. Once the rescue happens things start to heat up and I just adored these two together. When Pesha asks Taliesin how old he is I chuckled and well done my Lord with the technicality on that fact. But while the men get swoony and sexy, their quick banter had my heart singing.

“Dinilo pirano, close your eyes. Go to sleep.”

Now what did you call me?

 “Idiot sweetheart.”

Wonderful.

This story is so detailed and involved I am afraid to give too much of it away. The side characters in the story are amazing and I am so happy to learn that Sax is indeed real though he seems to share similarities of another of his kind named Elliot who protected Pete but that is just my brain remembering too much of silly things…

But this was a gorgeous story with all it brings to the table. The woven worlds of mages and gypsy’s, dragons, fey, Romani and all the other preternaturals that are present. It was intense and vivid and I am rambling so I will stop now.

Sleight of Heart is an enchanting, romantic tale of choices and fate and never repeating your same mistakes. It’s a romance written in beautiful, classic prose that engages you immediately as it emerges you into the depth of the story and holds you tightly until the end. I can’t wait to see where they series goes next…

For Beluviel, consort to the Elven High Lord, and Graydon, gryphon and First Sentinel of the Wyr, even the slightest desire for each other is forbidden. But two hundred years ago, after a desperate play to save Beluviel's stepson left them indebted to the cruel Djinn Malphas, they found their fates inexorably linked together--and the hunger between them growing too strong to ignore...

Two centuries later, with their debt to Malphas coming due, Beluviel and Graydon realize that, if they are to stand any chance of saving their souls, they must once again work together--this time more closely than ever before. But every moment they spend with each other brings them nearer to losing something even more vital--their hearts...
five-stars

Graydon’s book was what I had hoped for. The sacrifice and enduring love theme worked for me. It was action packed, dramatic, sad, happy and most of all, it had the HEA Graydon had been denied for 200 years. Gryphon took over as Frist Sentinel as well as my favorite when Rune left to mate with Carling.
The narrator Sophie Eastlake just delivered the story with a flair that was completely riveting. I love her voice and how she tells this series. I read the first two, but the audio is so much more powerful because of the narration.

Graydon and Beluviel (Consort to the Elven High Lord) had one incredible moment together before a cruel Djinn Malphas blackmailed them into an agreement to separate. Bel’s son Ferion was indebted to Malphas for a huge gambling debt and the djinn took a lien on Ferion’s soul. Gray and Bel agreed to stay away from each other as long as Malphas didn’t kill Ferion and force him to do illegal activities. So for 200 years, Gray and Bel kept to their promise while gathering evidence that Malphas was violating their agreement.

Armed with their evidence, Gray and Bel come to their friends for aid to be free from this Djinn’s control and the friends didn’t disappoint.

There was such angst and anticipation due to the separation of the two, which made the story much more enjoyable for me. The pace was steady and exciting throughout. The chemistry between Gray and Bel was so palpable that my heart was beating fast. This book is definitely one of my favorites in the series. The author made sure to engage the prior couples in the story and the storytelling was engrossing. This series is definitely one of the best series in PNR.

In Darkest Flame by Donna Grant, the Dark Kings have fought for centuries to preserve their dragon magic. But one of the most powerful warriors of his kind will be put to the ultimate test. Is he strong enough to resist his greatest temptations? Or will he be forced to surrender--body and soul? HER BEAUTY IS A WEAPON.Denae Lacroix is a beautiful MI5 agent on a deadly mission. Sent to the Scottish Highlands to spy on the mysterious Dreagan Industries, she discovers too late that she's been set up--as human bait. She is an irresistible lure for a man who has not seen or touched a woman for centuries. He is a man with a destiny--and a desire--that could destroy them both...HIS PASSION IS A CURSE...It's been twelve hundred years since Kellan has walked among humans--and there's no denying the erotically charged attraction he feels for Denae. But as a Dragon King, he is sworn to protect his secrets. Yet the closer he gets to this smart, ravishing woman, the more her life is in danger. All it takes is one reckless kiss to unleash a flood of desire, the fury of dragons...and the fiercest enemy of all.

I started with novellas, and then jumped right into this book. I am still on the fence because again, the characters were underdeveloped and the plot wasn’t as engaging as I had hoped. This book felt more like erotica than paranormal romance.

Secret agent Denae LaCroix was sort of forced into assisting the Dragon Kings since her M15 group set her up and abandoned her. The dragons were unknown to most humans but now there is a group trying to expose their existence.

Now Denae is caught up in a war and found that she was attracted to Dragon King Kellan. Problem is that Kellan doesn’t like humans and certainly not as a romantic partner. The push and pull finally gives way to passion and then Kellan begins to have a change of heart towards humans.

I found the writing to be sexy but uneven. There was a good amount of sex but I still believe this series has potential. Anthony Ferguson the narrator did a great job in bringing the story to life. I will continue on with book 2 before I make my final decision on whether or not this series is a keeper.

two-half-stars

Dark Heat contained three novellas: Dark Craving, Night’s Awakening and Dawn’s Desire. They are very short stories introducing the Dragon Kings featured in her series.
Unfortunately each story is undeveloped and rushes the couples into love. It is very sexy and the characters are likable. I just didn’t connect with dragons nor their human heroines. One thing that I did love was that the Dragon kings were Scottish warriors. I love the narrator’s accents because it highlighted that historical fiction area that I enjoy. The mixture of paranormal and Scottish romances was definitely intriguing for me and the brogue definitely made the dragons sound sexy.

I wish I had started off with the series and then come back to these novellas. It would give more context to the Dragon Kings. So I will try read books 1 and 2, then revisit these novellas.

Alone in a world on the brink of war...two unlikely allies will discover a love greater than time. Exiled from her home, powerful oracle Cosmina Cordei holds the key to uniting those protecting mankind from evil. But just as she makes her way into the holy city to perform an ancient rite, the enemy closes in for the kill... Drawn by a destiny he won't accept, elite assassin Henrik Lazar detests the mystical curse handed down by his mother. But when the sorcery in his blood is activated and past pain comes back to haunt him, his new abilities come into play and he must learn to control them. Rescued by Henrik in the heat of battle, Cosmina must decide whether to trust the assassin who loathes the goddess she serves or face certain death on her own. Forced into an untenable position, Henrik is left with a terrible choice--protect the magical Order he despises, or deny destiny and lose the woman he loves forever.
three-half-stars
In Book 2, Coreene Callahan continues the story with another loyal servant of the goddess, Cosmina Cordei fleeing from Halal. She runs into Henrik Lazar, who rescues the injured Cosmina. Together they journey to the white castle, but just like in Book 1, running for your life has a way of creating a bond and increasing attraction. The writing was very similar to the prior book in that the action is slow building and the writing rather wordy. I would like this story more if the author shaved off 50-75 pages.

The characters were really likeable. Cosmina and Henrik were hot together. They were both focused on their mission and they were not looking for love. I like that Cosmina was no simpering maiden and Henrik was no alpha male. He was protective but he wasn’t overbearing. It took a long time for them to give into their feelings, which made the first half of the book pretty slow for me. The story progressed at a much faster pace in the second half and I was much more engaged as Cosmina and Henrik gave in to their feelings, and the dragons got more involved. If you like your PNR with more of a fantasy storyline, then this series will enjoyable to you.
