Cop-turned-bounty-hunter Gabe Dominguez is hired to capture firestarter Nat Wyatt. For a dragon-shifter like Gabe, apprehending Nat is easy, but transporting him involves more time, energy, and blood loss than he envisioned. An attack from a band of fairies, an out-of-control forest fire, and a showdown at an auction don’t faze Gabe, but Nat’s innocence might stop him entirely.

Since discovering his abilities, Nat’s lost a best friend, a boyfriend, and trust in his brother. Only his love of concerts and card games get him through life without a home. Rumors of the Judge, a giant dragon who once destroyed half of Canada avenging those he loved, provide Nat with hope of vindication. When Nat discovers his captor is the Judge, he thinks he’s finally caught a break. Through late-night conversations and a shared love of music, Nat tries to convince Gabe he’s not guilty.

Can Gabe continue his cutthroat lifestyle, or will he run away with his dragon hoard like he’s always longed to do? Can Nat escape his legacy, or will his be another spark snuffed out by people who don’t understand? The Oracle, the most powerful wizard in Canada, might be the only one who can provide answers.

two-stars

This one was a pretty dry audiobook. The narrator’s voice wasn’t engaging enough to save this plot or make it interesting.

Gabe Dominguez was a bounty hunter hired to capture Nat Wyatt for his crime of arson. Gabe at first seems like a stoic character but clearly certain things about Nat chipped away at Gabe’s façade. As Gabe made his way with his captured prisoner in tow, Nat revealed more and more truths to where Gabe began questioning his sponsor’s intel.  There was a lot of world building as well as various supernatural characters but I didn’t feel the romance enough amongst the plot. I was hoping to “feel” instead of being told about their attraction. There were too many creatures and the author could have gradually introduced them in subsequent books.

I liked Gabe more than Nat but both characters were likeable. The story just wasn’t smooth and engaging enough and I had to really push myself to finish the audiobook. The premise was interesting but execution was a fail for me.

From two different worlds…

Now that she’s escaped her oppressive family, Nyx is enjoying her new life and friends—even if most of her friends don’t know who or what she is. As a rare demigod, she’s just learning how powerful she truly is, but family drama turns her world upside down, throwing the one man she cares about into danger.

He wasn’t supposed to fall for her…

Nyx is nothing like the females half-demon Bo Broussard has been with. Sweet and innocent, she’s not even remotely his type. But the moment she walks into his bar, he knows he’s not letting her go. Unfortunately someone from her past thinks they can force her into an arranged marriage.

He’s not letting her go…

Someone is targeting one of them, and Bo doesn’t know why. When they’re thrown into a hell realm together, he and Nyx will need to band together if they want to survive the perils of that world. No matter who was behind the attack, his choice is clear. Defend Nyx at all cost and make her his forever.

four-stars

In this installment, Nyx works at Bo’s bar, while hiding from her family for reasons unbeknownst to her employer. Nyx is simply tired of being a pawn in her family’s pursuit of power and so she wears glamour and works as a waitress while nursing an attraction to her boss.

Bo, half demon, half human bar owner, also nurses an attraction to Nyx but they both fight it for different reasons. When Nyx’s family finally try to bring her home, Bo steps in to protect her which leads them to give in to their passion.

Bo and Nyx’s story was a bit angsty, which I loved but it was truly entertaining. There was great chemistry, and a passionate love story. I was surprised to learn the full extent of Nyx’s heritage. I was happy to know that Bo had half siblings. I love that the author keeps the prior couples integral to the story and everyone is connected is some way. It is action-packed, sexy and full of all kinds of supernaturals. There were unexpected twists and turns, but the end was satisfying. This series is the best dragon shifter series I’ve listened to and one of the best PNR series out there. I look forward to the next book.

Simone Brightston knows she can beat the rap her enemies are pinning on her. An Irish witch is nobody's fool, and she didn't get to her position on the high council without serious power. But her cousins want her to hide out--and they somehow convinced her arch nemesis to play getaway driver.

Of all the men she's known, Nikolaj Veis is the hardest to intimidate. With his demon-dark eyes and his inscrutable beauty, he's as desirable as he is dangerous. And he knows better than to underestimate Simone. So when he pulls up on a roaring bike and tells her to climb on or fight it out, she grabs a handful of jacket and holds on tight. Running from the law may not be the smartest plan. But when it comes to Nick, hot pursuit and a blazing fast ride are exactly what Simone's looking for . . .

Includes the brand new Dark Protectors novella, ‘Talen’!
five-stars

I truly savored this book. Nikolaj Veis and Simone Brighton’s book had it all, suspense, mystery, romance, and all kinds of supernatural creatures. It was definitely the best in the series. I’ve been waiting for Simone Brighton’s reckoning, though I had an inkling she was being set up to take the fall as a bad guy. What I didn’t count on was the redemption of Nikolaj. Between his staunch defense of her integrity, his persistence in regaining her love, Nikolaj showed why he was worthy of Simone. I loved everything about this book. I found the novel passionate and the words just moved me. The narrator Brock Thompson was PERFECT for this story. His voice was smooth like butter and it flowed so well with the story.
Biker guy
These two characters are not new if you have read the Dark Protector series. They appear as far back as book 3, Hunted, but this the first time we get the background story as well as their mission as it pertains to the survival of their race. Simone, a witch, was being groomed to take her mother’s seat as one of the Coven Council’s Nine. Nikolaj is the demon advisor who we later learned protected Zane and now we learned why he played both sides of the fence.

Someone has gone through a lot of trouble to frame Simone as the distributor of the mineral planekite, a drug destroying the supernaturals. Now that she is up on charges of treason, Nick is tasked with protecting her until her trial. Old feelings resurface and Nick has an opportunity to regain the love he gave up in order to fulfill his duty to the Zane and the demon realm.

What I loved about this book is that it felt more like a Dark Protector novel than this new Wicked Realm series. I honestly haven’t warmed to these pretentious witches but I loved the vampire and demon interactions. The action was non-stop; the chemistry between Simone and Nikolaj was intense.

“I mated you because I’ve loved you from the first moment I laid eyes upon you a century ago…many soldiers in war wonder if they have a heart…I’ve never wondered …because you are in it and always have been. My heart is yours and always will be. Everything I have done in this life from the good to the truly terrible has been to make the world a better place for you and for any children we may have. Everything I am and will ever be belongs solely to you. No woman has ever been more loved than you are right now Simone.”

That declaration of love was just everything I had been expecting and more. I felt it in my heart. The feeling those words invoke is exactly why I read romance novels. Fervent adoration and love is so sexy and Nikolaj was very sexy. This second chance romance was so enjoyable because you get to see the growth in the characters from their first go-around with love. Both Simone and Nick have honed their abilities, made a mark with their respective group of people and now it’s time to deal with what broke them up. They are adults now and are clear on what they want. Nikolaj goes right in and took no prisoners.

The secondary characters added meat to this novel, specifically Bear. I can’t wait for more stories about him. This story ended with many things unresolved like the true identity of the antagonist, the distributor of deadly drug and Simone’s status with Coven unresolved. I can’t wait to continue the journey with the Realm Enforcers.

About Rebecca Zanetti

Rebecca Zanetti wrote her first story when she was six – a romance between a princess and neighboring prince. The princess fell out of her castle and the prince rescued her. A happily ever after was had by all.

This theme of romance has been carried through Rebecca’s works until present time. While today’s heroine may have a medical degree, black belt in Karate and her own 401K, she’s still after that happy ending. And today’s prince may have fangs and wear a black hat, but hey, a modern princess likes a guy who bites.

Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides there with her husband, children and extended family who inspire her every day.

Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks…
four-half-stars

I was really excited when I found out that the Dark Protector universe would continue and Janie Kayrs fulfilled her destiny. Wicked Ride didn’t disappoint. Rebecca Zanetti just writes such entertaining characters that I wasn’t surprised that I connected with the main characters and enjoyed their journey to their HEA.

Kellach Dunne, Realm Enforcer and cousin to Breanne & Moira (Kayrs mates), is the featured hero in the book. He was sent to Seattle by the Coven Nine Witches to find out who is creating and distributing a drug called Apollo. The drug was caused delusions of being a “god” and caused the abuser’s organs to burn. The drug Apollo’s main ingredient was Planekite, a mineral that was deadly to witches.

In the human sector, Seattle vice cop Alexandra “Lex” Monzelle was investigating the drug suppliers as well. Lex was on a persona crusade to eliminate this booming drug trade and her investigation put her on a collision course with Kellach.

When these two finally collided, the chemistry was undeniable. Lex was a self-sufficient woman and didn’t like how vulnerable Kellach made her feel. Kellach wanted a woman who would let him lead and found it quite difficult to tame Lex. Could these two meet in the middle? Who is engineering and sponsoring this drug endeavor and what is their end game?

This one wasn’t exactly like the Dark Protectors and I liked the fact that the witches were front and center. We still got a visit from the King of the Realm with an update of the royal family. We even got two young vampires helping on this case. I enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed the first installment of the Dark Protectors. There was romance, hot loving, a good mystery and lots of action. The characters were likable and we got a good set up for the next book.  If you enjoy Rebecca Zanetti’s other work, then you are in for a treat because this one was definitely a great beginning to this new spin-off series.

Brianna Hai runs an occult shop that sells useless trinkets to tourists--and real magic supplies to witches and warlocks. The magical painting that hangs in Brianna's apartment is the last portal between the fae and human worlds.A shocking magical assault on her home reveals to Brianna that her father, High King Liu of the Fae, is under attack. With the help of her gargoyle, Pug, her friend David, and Angelo, a police detective who doesn't believe in magic, Brianna recovers what was stolen from her and becomes an unwilling potential heir to the throne.A suspenseful urban fantasy with a hint of romance, The Exile is the first solo novel by C. T. Adams, who is half of USA Today bestselling author Cat Adams. Like the Cat Adams Blood Singer novels, The Exile is set in a world where magic is real and contains Adams's trademark blend of suspense, action, humor, and strongly emotional writing.
four-stars

I was pleasantly surprised because I normally don’t care for Fae stories. This was interesting and a good start to a series.

Brianna Hai is the half human half fae princess of King Liu but she lived in the human realm as her fae siblings were constantly trying to eliminate her as a possible heir to their father’s throne. Brianna’s mother escaped to the human realm and they opened up a store selling antiques and other various trinkets. All of sudden Brianna starts getting attacked by pixies and then a powerful fae comes and tries to glamour her. Brianna’s time on the sidelines of fae politics came to a screeching halt. Brianna proceeded to show her half siblings and the fae world that she wasn’t wallflower they thought she was.

Brianna enlisted the aid of her best friend David and her trusted gargoyle Pug go to Faery to figure out what’s going on with her father’s court and how she could helf King Liu with the civil war. Meanwhile David’s brother, Nick, has been approached by the FBI to investigate Brianna and find out what’s going on in her story as the law enforcement officials think the store is a front for an illegal enterprise.

This is a new author for me and I enjoyed Marguerite Gavin’s narration. She is one of my favorites so the audiobook was a treat. Her tone and delivery gave just the right touch of femininity and strength. I will admit there was a lot of alternating POVs. It was a bit excessive, but I was able to follow the story despite that. It was a good foundation book, because it wasn’t an information dump as many authors often do with book 1 of a new series. There was enough information given to satisfy my curiosity and enough left over so that I am interested in continuing on to book 2. If you enjoy political intrigue, betrayals and a tiny hint of romance, then you will enjoy this one.

Runa Charon is an anomaly among her kind, the mortal offspring of a human and a fae. Unlike other sidhe, she longs to experience pleasure instead of pain, love instead of lust. Immortally strong but mortally fragile, she's been sheltered all of her life. When she's taken captive by a Draigen who plans to return her to the Otherworld for crimes she didn't commit, she attempts to fight him off only to discover her destiny has been changed forever. Draigen mate for life, choosing to follow the path of their beloved mate in this reality or the next. Knowing a future with his Chosen can only span one lifetime, Eric defies the Fates and claims Runa as his own. He'll do whatever it takes to possess her, protect her and keep her by his side.
four-stars

I don’t know what I was expecting in this one, but I was really surprised at how much i enjoyed it. The world was very different, it had all kinds of creatures in the realm, fae, dragons, brownie, selkies, demons, witches/sorcerers, vampires, negromancers–which I don’t know what the heck that is, but they were there.

So Runa Charon is the 5th child to a Sidhe but unlike her siblings, she was born to a mortal woman. So she is the family black sheep. When her sister Octavia tricks her into paying for a crime committed by Octavia, Runa finds herself bound to a draigen named Eric Locke. But from the moment Eric saw Runa, he knew she was his chosen, so now he just has to convince the mortal fae girl to have him as a life partner.

This story was well written, and very entertaining. Runa was really likable and wasn’t a weakling. Yes, she was a tad gullible on the Octavia front, but Runa learned quick and didn’t make the same mistake twice. Eric was also a likeable character. He worked to gain her trust and he was very sweet. I don’t know if the author needed every creature in the Lore, but I guess like IAD, the more creatures, the more the author has to weave love stories.

In Discovery of Witches introduces reluctant witch Diana Bishop, vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont, and the battle for a lost, enchanted manuscript known as Ashmole 782.

Picking up from A Discovery of Witches’ cliffhanger ending, Shadow of Night takes Diana and Matthew on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782 deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew’s past tightens around them, and they embark on a very different—and vastly more dangerous—journey.
three-half-stars

This book is like a buffet, a lot of different morsels are offered up at the same time and for me, it got a tad overwhelming. It’s just too much stuff going on and I needed it to be a little less congested. We start off with Diana and Matthew time traveling to the 1500s to find a suitable witch to help Diana learn how to use her powers and to try to locate the Ashmole 782.

We are quickly introduced to Matthew’s old crew. Obviously Matthew was well connected in his past as several historical figures like Queen Elizabeth 1 are weaved into the tale. But Elizabethan era wasn’t an easy time period for the normally independent Diana, who struggled to dress, talk and act in an appropriate manner. Also, Matthew was a controlling jerk at times and I didn’t quite get why because even though they went back in time, he still was present day Matthew, just in another place. I guess the author really wanted to drive home that Matthew was IN CHARGE as men were in charge in the 1500s.

I wanted more romance and focus on Diana and Matthew’s relationship than I got in this book 2. We also got bogged down with wild goose chase of someone to train Diana in the use of her witch powers. Towards the end, we got more Matthew and Diana and less of the others. Matthew also became more of the book 1 Matthew and they finally connected again.

The author is very well versed in her history but I think its overpowering the main story and making the book drag. I hope book 3 is a lot faster in its pace and more focused on Diana and Matthew as a couple.

four-stars

This one is not among my top 5 in this series. It was good but I have had way better in this series.
Thronos and Melanthe were introduced in book 6, Kiss of a Demon King, I had wondered about this two.

Thronos and Lanthe were childhood best friends. The Vrekener prince and the sorceri were not supposed to hang out, but Thronos would sneak to Lanthe as often as he could. When the Vrekeners slaughtered the Sorceri, Lanthe couldn’t forgive Thronos, and so even though she knew he was her fated one, she ran from Thronos.

Of course when Nix started maneuvering everyone to that jail were Declan and the Order imprisoned the Lore creatures, Nix directed Thronos there so he could find Lanthe.

Then the next 8 hours of the book was full of bickering and it just got of my nerves after all. It wasn’t even good banter. It lasted way to long so by the time they got lovey dovey, it was anti-climatic for me. I didn’t like Lanthe as much as I liked Sabine. But I liked Thronos and I felt that he had genuine beef with Lanthe’s looseness. I supported his gripes and I felt him. If the author took off just a little of the animosity and mistrust, this reunion of childhood friends would have been sweeter.
